Weekly Update #499: Pricing

As mentioned in last week’s blog post, there are a couple of topics I’d like to discuss as we slowly edge closer to the completion of our next murder mystery visual novel GENBA no Kizuna and therefore its release. One topic I’ve already covered is how exactly it compares to our previous project SHINRAI – Broken Beyond Despair. So, if you’d like to know more about what you can expect from GENBA, how it differs from SHINRAI and in what ways the two of them are similar, you can read all about it in this post right here!

Now, as you could already tell from the title, today, I’d like to get into the topic of pricing. It’s something I’ve been asked about before, which has been on my mind for a very long time now and which is, of course, a very important decision factor for potential buyers as to whether or not they’re going to get our game (or at least when they’re going to get it).

Let me start off by stating that a price has not fully been set in stone for GENBA yet, so I still cannot give you a precise number! However, I do know a price range which I’ll get into later, so that you’ll at least get an idea as to what you can expect. That said, the primary point of today’s post is more to delve into the various thoughts and factors that go into the decision-making process and why it’s so difficult to pin down what a project like ours should actually cost (the secondary point being that it sometimes feels as though, especially as an indie dev, you kinda need to justify why you’re charging any money at all in the first place…).

But without further ado, let’s jump right into the topic at hand!

Weekly Update #498: Valentine’s Art & More GENBA Progress

A couple days ago was Valentine’s Day and even though I sadly didn’t have the time to draw anything myself for the occasion, I once again commissioned the ever so talented Jun to draw us something in her super adorable art style, so to start off today’s post, please check out these two cute little V-Day pairings, one for SHINRAI and one for GENBA:

(I wonder what’s going through both of their heads right now w)

(I’m so jealous of Ryuu…)

As always, I have added these to our gallery where you can find even more cute art by Jun and many other talented artists!

Weekly Update #497: Progress Update & More Fanart

In last week’s blog post, I mentioned that Natsu was going to beta-test the entirety of the final investigation phase (chapter 4) now that she’s made it fully playable. She still hasn’t really done so, but the reason for that is that she instead decided to take care of coding everything I’ve sent her for the final chapter already, meaning that… half of that is now essentially playable, too!

Weekly Update #496: Plans For February

So, my plan for January was to reach the halfway mark of the final chapter and, up until that point, get it ready for Natsu to code.
Now, while I haven’t quite made it, it was a really close call, as I should be able to send her the zip package with all the assets and script tomorrow evening! So yeah, a couple days later than planned, but I am essentially done with 50% of our grand finale!

Weekly Update #495: The Differences Between SHINRAI & GENBA no Kizuna

Given that we’re slowly edging closer towards the completion of GENBA no Kizuna, I thought that, for today’s topic, I’d like to talk a bit more about what you can actually expect from our next murder mystery and how exactly it compares to SHINRAI. Because, even though both projects do have a lot of similarities, they are also very different from one another.

So, without further ado, let’s delve right into how and why that is!

Weekly Update #494: Quick Progress Update

As mentioned in our previous blog posts, I’m currently going through the final chapter from the beginning again, finalizing it scene by scene, and thereby getting it ready for Natsu to make playable. Earlier today, I arrived at scene 9, which means that I’ve essentially covered one third of the entire thing now. There are still a few script parts I need to adjust a bit more, as well as two art assets I gotta finish, but I should be able to take care of that within the next few days and wrap it all up in another zip package to send over to Natsu some time next week.

So yeah, overall, I’m very happy with the progress I’ve made over the last seven days. I’ve also sent Natsu some other things to take care of in the meanwhile. Not gonna unveil here what they are here, but patrons can expect a little preview soon!

Anyway, I’m still aiming to reach the halfway mark by the end of the month or, at the very least, the big decision point from where the game splits off into its four different endings. Therefore, I’m already gonna come to a close here and return right back to work!

In case you want a bit more to read, however, I’m gonna leave another reminder here that we’ve recently posted our 2023 summary and our plans for 2024 should you not have seen them yet!

But with that said, I wish you a great remainder of your weekend! Until next Saturday, take care :3

Weekly Update #492: Plans For 2024

Happy New Year!! We’re already one week into 2024 and so I hope that you had a very pleasant and already successful start into it!

In last week’s blog post, I looked back at the entirety of 2023 and although a lot of cool things certainly did happen and a ton of progress was made, we sadly didn’t reach our main goal of finally releasing our next murder mystery visual novel GENBA no Kizuna.

We have gotten very close to the end, however, currently working on the finale, and so I can say that it will release this year for sure.
And maybe it was always meant to be this way, given that 2024 is the year of the dragon!

Weekly Update #491: 2023 Retrospect

2023 is coming to a close, so as has become our tradition here, I want to use today’s blog post to look back at the year as a whole, summarize our achievements and talk about the things that didn’t quite go according to plan as well as about the positive developments that unfolded, which never even were part of our initial plans! So let’s get right into, shall we?

Weekly Update #490: Merry Christmas!

Today, we’re just gonna have a super quick post again, since I’m currently very busy with a lot of things, given that Christmas is right around the corner now! Next Saturday, however, we’ll make up for that with a much longer post in the shape our annual retrospect.
As always, I will take a look back at the year and summarize what we’ve accomplished and what didn’t go quite according to plan, before we talk about our aims and goals for 2024. So, if you’re interested in hearing about all that stuff, keep your eyes peeled! Patrons can also expect a more personal post again, addressing a few extra things I usually don’t like to talk about publicly.

Now, in terms of update news, there isn’t much to share anyway. I’ve primarily been working on art assets this past week, while also polishing the script some more. We have one more week to go before 2023 comes to a close and my main objective is to finish up the last bigger remaining sprite assets, DPA illustrations and fill in the last few script gaps.

But yeah, I will delve much deeper into all that next week!

Sadly, I didn’t have the time to draw a new Christmas illustration this year, since I’ve just been focusing on actual game assets, so I won’t be making an extra post tomorrow as I usually do. Therefore, I’m already gonna wish you a very merry Christmas right now! Both Natsu and I hope that you’ll have some cozy and stress-free Holidays and that you’ll be able to spend the last bit of the year in fun and good health! Until next Saturday, take good care! :3
