In last week’s blog post, I gave you a little look at the menu design for our next VN project: GENBA no Kizuna. And just as I mentioned there, I’ve been focusing on the GUI once again this past week, working hard on finishing it.
While the overall design had already been set in stone, there were still a bunch of minor details that needed some tweaking. Especially in regards to the textbox, which I sadly wasn’t able to show off last Saturday. Today, however, I can, as the design has been finalized, so… have a look!
Yesterday, I also posted it on Twitter together with the preview from a while ago, in order to give you a side-by-side comparison of what has changed since then. As you can see, the textbox has become a little longer. We’re working with a wider resolution after all, so why not make use of that, right?
I also added some more detailing and texture and our two GENBA mascots, the raptor hatchlings Kira (blue) and Toru (brown), are finished now as well. Similar to our little bat in SHINRAI, they will react alongside the characters to surprising or even shocking events and revelations.
You will also note that, unlike in SHINRAI, there is a little hexagon at the bottom right corner of the textbox now, displaying the “click-to-continue” arrow. Previously, it was displayed at the end of each sentence, which actually caused us quite a bit of trouble and resulted in a lot of extra text-editing. So this simple change will make things a lot more pleasant for us now, haha.
Outside of that, there isn’t too much else to say. I played around with a few other texture ideas (like displaying fossil silhouettes inside the textbox), but ended up keeping the design consistent with the rest of the GUI. And I quite honestly like how it turned out.
Anyway, I guess that’s mostly it for today’s posting. There is one other thing I’ve been spending a lot of time on, but as I didn’t finish in time, that will have to wait a few more days. I will most likely talk about it before next Saturday, though.
Last but certainly not least, I received an amazing little gift through mail the other day. If you’ve been keeping an eye on Twitter, you might have already seen it, but I just have to share it here as well:
The amazing Xolf sent me this cute, framed picture of Kamen and Raiko! The artist is Jyundee, so if you like what you’re seeing, be sure to check out her DeviantArt page!
With that said, time to get back to work! Please enjoy the rest of your weekend and, until next Saturday, take care! :3
