Over this past week, my work on the outline for GENBA no Kizuna has continued. For the first time, I shared the events of the second chapter with somebody else. Both Natsu and Kuna, actually. Getting their feedback was very useful, so today, I want to get into a little detail about that.

Weekly Update #295: Character Selection
With chapter 2, the investigation in GENBA no Kizuna is really going to get started. So right at the beginning, after the chapter intro screen, players will be prompted to pick one of our four investigators. Because of this, I had to design a little “character selection screen” and you can see the result below (which may not be 100% final yet, but pretty close):

Weekly Update #294: Plans For April
Before we get into my plans for the next few weeks, let’s start with a little progress update! I’ve finished the outline for GENBA no Kizuna‘s second chapter and even sent it over to Natsu. This will actually be the very first time anyone outside of myself is going to read it. As a matter of fact, not even Natsu knows the whole story of GENBA, so I will be very curious to get my first feedback on the events lying beyond our extended demo.

Weekly Update #293: More Outline/Writing Progress
With the “discussion” chapters done, I’ve spent this past week working on the outline for the “investigation” chapters and made quite a bit of progress. Once again, I would like to emphasize that, even though I use the word “outline” here, it’s actually a bit more than just that. I’m not just ordering a list of key notes, structuring how the individual chapters will unfold… in many cases, I am doing actual writing as well, chapter 2 being the best example of that.

Weekly Update #292: Outline Progress & BGM Update
Work on the outline for GENBA no Kizuna continues, with chapter 3 now basically done as well, and only chapter 4 remaining as the last big hurdle. I’ve actually been talking a lot about the outline during these past weeks, trying to put into words how I go about it and what exactly it looks like, so I thought that today, I’ll give you a little sneak peek instead. Just so that you can get a better idea as to what I actually mean when I say “outline”.
The following is a quick look at the beginning of chapter 3 (no major spoilers):

Weekly Update #290: Writing Revelations
So, I’ve continued working on the outline for the final chapter of GENBA no Kizuna and it’s slowly taking shape. The problem with it is that, similar to SHINRAI‘s finale, the entire case needs to be wrapped up. All the mysteries need to be solved and the culprit needs to be exposed in one lengthy discussion of the case. And ideally, this discussion has a logical and natural flow.
In my opinion, it’s always best to go in chronological order and to get some simple/basic things out of the way first. Especially when you have a very complex case to unravel. You want people to be able to follow the revelations without getting confused, after all.

Weekly Update #289: GENBA Research Topics
While continuing my work on the outline for GENBA no Kizuna, which mainly consists of structuring the final discussion/revelation of all the mysteries at the moment, I’ve ended up doing some more research on various topics. Research is always a very important aspect to me, when it comes to writing a story. Thus, I’ve decided to give you a little overview of all the things I’ve looked into so far, just to write my little murder mystery visual novel.

Weekly Update #288: Outline Progress & SHINRAI OST Update
Alright, today’s gonna be another very quick progress update. I am still continuing my work on the outline for the remaining GENBA chapters, currently structuring the discussion phase in the third one. Here, Keiichi and the others confront Raptor Pack Productions with some of their findings during the initial investigation phase (chapter 2). This chapter works similar to the final one in SHINRAI and mostly revolves around establishing theories and backing them up with evidence and facts.
