Weekly Update #393: Quick Progress Update

With Keiichi‘s and Shinketsu‘s routes fully coded and Rei‘s currently being made playable by Natsu as well, there is only Himatsu‘s left now before we can finally finish up the second chapter!

To give you an idea as to the length of it: excluding Himatsu‘s route, chapter 2 currently sits at around 35,000 words.
Adding to that the ~50,000 of the prologue and first chapter, we’re getting very close to the 100,000 mark now!
And the entirety of SHINRAI is around 150,000 words, sooo… this definitely is turning out to be a much bigger project!

Anyway, I hope to have Himatsu‘s route wrapped up by next weekend. Since Natsu will obviously need some time to code it and I’d like to play through the whole thing myself before we share it, I guess patrons will be able to beta-test chapter 2 around mid-March.

By then, I will work on the first “social phase” of the game, which is a rather short affair, and then move on to chapter 3.

At least that’s the plan, but first things first! I need to write two optional character scenarios for Himatsu‘s route and then there really is only the usual revision/proofreading routine left!

That kinda wraps up all I can say for now, but before we already come to a close, I’d like to show you something pretty rad:

Huge shoutout to Lilenee0 for drawing this amazing Amber! I think she did a phenomenal job! You have no idea how happy this made me, haha. If you’d like to see even more beautiful art by her, be sure to check out her pinned tweet with all her social media info and art accounts! It’s definitely worth it!

Now, as always, it’s time for me to get back to work, so please enjoy the rest of your weekend and, until next Saturday, take care :3

Weekly Update #392: Rei’s Route Nearing Completion

Once again, we’re going to have a rather quick update, but despite its shortness, we have actually accomplished quite a lot again this week! Not only has Natsu finished coding the entirety of Shinketsu‘s route, the first third of Rei‘s is now playable as well!
The remaining two thirds will follow shortly, as I am about to finish the last few things that were still missing to complete it.

I have, for instance, just taken care of the sound effects and a couple more cut-in images that will be used for visual variety.
All that is left to do now is to give the script two or three more passes to ensure that everything makes sense and clicks together.

Weekly Update #391: More Coding Progress!

We’re currently hard at work to finally make the second chapter of GENBA no Kizuna fully playable and, after wrapping up Keiichi‘s route last weekend, Shinketsu‘s is now following suit and nearing completion as well!

Despite a much shorter word count, it still takes quite a bit of time and effort to code, due to the higher level of interactivity compared to Keiichi‘s route. Natsu has been very diligent, though, and should be done with it within the next couple of days.

Weekly Update #390: Coding Progress

This past week has been a very productive one and I’m happy to report that Natsu has made Keiichi‘s route fully playable now!
Because of that, I’m going to send her everything for Shinketsu‘s next, which I’ve been diligently working on these last few days.

As a matter of fact, I finished the last remaining assets (mainly images for DPA entries) and took care of all the new sound effects today, so tomorrow, I will give the script one last read-through and then compile another zip package. And while Natsu will use its contents to code the doc’s route, I will then move on to finishing up everything for Rei‘s route next!

Weekly Update #389: Ready To Code

Alrighty, today, I have some exciting progress to report!

Over the course of this past week, Natsu has finished coloring all the remaining sprites for Keiichi‘s investigation route, while I have gathered all the assets, readied them for in-game use and compiled a zip package to send over to her later, so that she can begin with making the whole thing actually playable!

Weekly Update #388: Another Quick Progress Update

Work on the second chapter of GENBA no Kizuna continues and we have once again made more progress on both the script as well as the art assets, primarily in regards to Himatsu‘s route! While Natsu has properly colored more sprites, I’ve finally finished my part on the last remaining variations still needed for chapter 2, so I’m happy to have finally wrapped up that aspect of it!

Thanks to Natsu coloring the character appearing on it, I was also finally able to put together the last new CG, so that’s another thing checked off our to-do list. All that’s really left now is some more work on the script as well as the GUI.

There is a sort of “mini game” I’d like to implement into Rei‘s route, so I still need to figure out how to design the menu for it, but there’s also the textboxes, investigation menus and choice windows I need to whip up for Shin, Rei and Hima, as they all differ in color compared to the green style used throughout the rest of the game.

By the end of the month, all of that will hopefully be taken care of, but I guess I will mostly focus on the script again this coming week, to finally wrap up Himatsu‘s route. The part that has given me the biggest headache has finally been figured out, so now I just need to write a couple more quick scenes and do the usual revision routine.

That’s about all I can say I guess, so I’m gonna get right back to work now and hope that you will enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Until next Saturday, take care! :3

Weekly Update #387: Himatsu Route Progress

As you can tell by the title, I’ve dedicated myself to Himatsu‘s route this week, primarily working on the optional investigation stuff.
I’ve made some very good script progress and even shared a little sneak peek on Twitter yesterday, in case you haven’t seen it.

Art-wise, I have also finished her new sprite variations, so that they can be handed over to Natsu for coloring now.
If you’re a patron, you can also check out some previews right here.

Now, speaking of Natsu, she has also been very diligent and finished coloring a whole bunch of sprites for Keiichi, our victim and the members of Raptor Pack Productions. Next up, she’ll take care of the witnesses and the CG art and then, she can finally start coding Keiichi‘s route, so I’m pretty excited about that, as I can’t wait to actually play it, haha!

I have also worked on some other sprites related to Himatsu‘s route this week, including new variations for Terano and Ryuu, some of which I will likely share on Patreon as well. Sprite-wise that means we’re almost done now. I guess by next Saturday, all the new variations needed for the entirety of chapter 2 will be done.

I guess that about wraps up our quick progress update, but I do have one more thing to share. Our New Year’s artwork!

As always, it’s been added to our gallery and patrons can download a hi-res version, as well as the usual transparent version (no BG or text, just the character) here. It took a little bit, but with this, we want to once again wish you a Happy New Year!

Now, please enjoy the rest of your weekend and, until next Saturday, take care :3

Weekly Update #386: Quick Progress Update

Today, we’re just going to have a very quick progress update again for a change. If you’re up for a longer read and haven’t done so already, you could check out last week’s blog post laying out our general plans for 2022 as well as giving a more detailed look at those for this first month of the year. There is also our 2021 retrospect, if you’d like to get an overview how last year went for us.

Also, just a little reminder that, although the Winter Sale may be over on Steam and itch, the Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4/5 versions of SHINRAI are currently still on sale (the Switch version only for a couple more days, though)!

Now, with all of that out of the way, let’s talk about our first week of 2022!

Weekly Update #385: Plans For 2022

In last week’s blog post, I have taken a look back at 2021 and shared a few more personal thoughts on the year over on our Patreon.
Today, I would like to focus on what is lying ahead: a whole new year with new goals and new opportunities!

It’s always difficult to lay out a road map for an entire year, but I do certainly have a rough idea as to how I would like to approach things and what I would like to have achieved by December 31st. As usual, I will elaborate on our plans for a specific month in the first update at the start of it, so I will go into detail regarding those for January further down below. Before we get into any specifics, however, let’s talk about the major goal for the year as a whole. You can probably take a guess as to what that may be!

Weekly Update #384: 2021 Retrospect

As has become customary by now, today, I would like to take the time to look back on this past year and summarize what we have accomplished and how much these accomplishments diverge from the goals we originally set all the way back in January, so…

Without further ado, let’s get right into it!
