Last week, I primarily worked on the credits and results screen for GENBA no Kizuna, figuring out how to handle the Detective Ranking this time around. Ever since then, I’ve moved on to the game’s extras section!
You can expect the same types of extras here as in SHINRAI – Broken Beyond Despair: a gallery to view all the CGs, a section with a bunch of bonus art, featuring all the Holiday and special illustrations I’ve done for GENBA and, probably most intriguingly, a couple of extra scenes and the full version of our vocalized theme song to listen to!
The first two extra scenes were originally intended to be included in chapter 2 of the main game, but I left them out back in the day to finish the demo more quickly and because they weren’t relevant to the plot, anyway. They also kinda made the whole section feel a bit bloated and even though I played with the idea of just making them optional/skippable, I felt a lot of players would actually skip over them to finally move on with the investigation at that point.
They’re (in my opinion at least) still really fun scenes, however, and honestly part of the reason why I even went into the direction with GENBA that I ultimately did. This is the kinda stuff I also wanted to write aside from a simple murder mystery, so yeah, it’s still there, just moved to the bonus content now.
As for the other three scenes, these will only get unlocked if you get the maximum amount of Social Points for each respective character. They will shed more light on their struggles, motivations and past. Originally, I wanted to include this stuff in the main game as well, but it simply cannot be done in a way that would feel natural or even logical. It’s really the same issue I had with Hiro‘s back story in SHINRAI. There’s just no place for it in the main game and since there won’t be a GENBA 2, this is the only way for me to do it. I’ll properly elaborate on all of this some other time more, but for now, that’s really all I can say.
Anyway, all the extra scenes are essentially written, the first two just need to be polished a bit more and the other three need a bit of revising, so that’s what I’ll focus on in the coming days. We’re in May now and I really want the beta-test phase to begin already, so getting there will be our primary goal for this month!
With that said, I guess I’ll get back to work then, BUT! Not without once again leaving you with some art I commissioned:
I love Pokémon and when I saw that JulyMarte was offering trainer commissions, I couldn’t resists and made her draw GENBA‘s Ryuunosuke along with what else but a Tyrantrum, of course! I really really love the result!! So much, in fact, that I might commission her again when she’s opening up new slots, haha. If you’re curious about that yourself, be sure to keep an eye on her Ko-fi linked above or check out her Instagram!
Now then, please enjoy a wonderful weekend and, until next Saturday, take care :3
