Weekly Update #466: Chapter IV Progress Update

As mentioned in last week’s blog post, I’ve spent last Sunday fully dedicated to background art again and did, in fact, finally finish up both backyard BGs along with all of their variations! With this, almost all the BG art for GENBA no Kizuna is done! There is only one more location I gotta work on: Terano‘s room. That will be the last place you get to investigate in the game, although it won’t be a full room investigation. Instead, it will be more focused on accessing Terano‘s laptop. As such, I am still a bit indecisive as to how much of the room I should depict. Should I offer a view similar to Ryuunosuke‘s room, meaning that basically half of it is visible? Or should it just be a close up of Terano‘s desk, given that his computer is the main (and really only) point of focus?

Naturally, the latter option would be a lot simpler and faster to take care off, but at the same time, I feel like players might be a bit disappointed if they hear that they’ll get to enter another room and then barely see any of it. At least that’s how I would feel, haha.

However, I obviously also don’t want to spend more time than necessary on it, so I guess I’ll have to see what option I’ll go with or if I can find some nice balance. Either way, I’m gonna tackle it very soon, so we can finally wrap up the last bit of chapter four.

The last few days, I’ve actually went over the script again, made some more tweaks to it and also typed up another batch of evidence entries. There is less than a handful of evidence to tackle now, so we’re getting close to being done with the DPA stuff as well.

Also, on a side note, here’s a little fun fact: I’ve got an “Unused Content” document for GENBA in which I throw all the stuff that’s been cut from the script. This includes alternate lines, some dialogue exchanges and even entire scenes and, by now, that document is actually a little over 22,000 words long, haha…

At the beginning of it, there is an entire narrative segment that describes how Keiichi arrived at the Kaseki residence, for instance.
Once the game is finally out, I may just share a bunch of stuff from that document if people are interested.

But yeah, I was kinda surprised myself to see how long it’s become by now!

Anyway, I might throw a few more things in there as I’ll continue to work on the last couple chapter four scenes now, which will hopefully be wrapped up within the next two weeks. I’ve also started to work on some of the special CGs for the last chapter already and hope to share a first preview of one of them on Patreon in about two weeks as well.

We’re a bit behind schedule again, but I really want to get into the final chapter at last, so that will be the main goal for the rest of July.
And in order to reach it, I guess I’ll head right back to work now, so, as always, please enjoy the rest of your weekend and, until next Saturday, take care :3
