A little late with today’s posting, which is mostly due to the fact that I have been so busy writing again. I really wanted to get another scene for GENBA no Kizuna done, so that I can send it to Natsu later and get her impressions. I’ve been mostly focused on the writing in general for this past week, and have made quite a bit of progress.
The first investigation phase (which could be seen as the first chapter I guess) is almost done. It’s currently sitting at just about 10,000 words in length. Of course, all the background investigation comments and dialogues aren’t done yet (I can only properly write those once the actual backgrounds are finished, so I’m pushing that aside for now), and I’m not too sure how long the final scene will turn out. However, I estimate the entire thing to be around 15,000 words when all is said and done.
Once the writing for the first phase is finished, I will most likely shift the focus a little more towards asset creation again. I need to do some more planning before I can really get into the writing for the next phase, anyway.
Besides, our main objective right now is the creation of a demo for GENBA as soon as possible. Aside from the fact that I’d like to see everything I have written in VN-format myself, and get an idea how it feels and plays in action, it will also provide us with the ability to gather some feedback. Of course, as of right now, I can’t really tell how long it might take to finish that demo. I want it to contain the prologue as well as the entire first phase, so that’s still gonna be a lot of work in regards to assets. However, we are going to focus on a demo first and foremost and I really hope that you will be looking forward to it!
I’ve actually started to make an asset list and even began sketching one of the first CGs. There’s a rather funny scene (at least I think it’s funny!) during the first investigation phase, and after writing it, I immediately wanted to draw it as well, haha.
I’m also still not sure how long the entire game will be in the end, but it will certainly be much shorter than SHINRAI (which is good, because that was the plan). Right now, all I can say is that 3 more phases will follow, meaning that aside from a prologue and epilogue, there will be a total of 4 investigation phases, or “chapters” if you will. I’m gonna try to keep them at about an equal length, but it’s impossible to tell if that will work out. I could imagine the final phase becoming a bit longer, due to everything happening in it. But I guess we’ll see about that once I actually get there.
Anyway, that’s about it in regards to my current writing progress. By next Saturday, I will hopefully have finished the first phase, including all the notebook entries and character profiles. Until then, please take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend! :3
