So, Jurassic June has unfortunately come to a close. As a final conclusion to this month that not only celebrates the Jurassic Park franchise, but dinosaurs in general, I’d like to elaborate a bit more on what I have talked about in last week’s blog post: the reasons as to why we chose Jurassic June in order to reveal more about GENBA no Kizuna, our next murder mystery visual novel.
As I have mentioned before, GENBA was designed with a “dinosaur” theme in mind, similar to how “Halloween” was the core design element for SHINRAI – Broken Beyond Despair.
In SHINRAI, the Halloween theme was reflected through the setting and the character designs. However, it also played into the murder case. The culprit’s scheme only worked the way it did because of Rie’s Halloween party and the circumstances it created.
GENBA and its dinosaur theme will work pretty much the same in that regard, the setting being the Kaseki Residence, home of the late paleontologist Dr. Genshi Kaseki. It’s pretty big (although not nearly as big as the Miyamoto Mountain Resort) and, in parts, could be described as a dinosaur museum.
Ever since he passed away, the residence has been inhabited by Dr. Kaseki’s grandson and his friends, all of whom are big dinosaur nerds. And eventually, it becomes the scene of a grotesque murder, resulting in GENBA’s four protagonists conducting an investigation in order find the culprit.
I don’t really want to say much more than that, but it should give you a good enough idea about the setting. I will elaborate a bit more on it once I have gotten around to finishing one or two background images, so that I can also give you a little glimpse of what the residence actually looks like.
I originally wanted to finish one of them by the end of June in order to show it to you today, but then had to take care of a whole bunch of other things first… orz” There is one thing I can show you, however, before I wrap this up!
If you’re following us (or simply me) on Twitter, you might have already seen it, but here’s a little glimpse at some GENBA dialogue:
Gray text are coding instructions (which sprite/expression is shown, etc.) for Natsu, our programmer.
As you can see, Himatsu learns the hard way that you better not try to brag about dino knowledge in front of a dino nerd!
This is just one of the many options during the interrogation phase. Aside from questions relevant to the case, you will also be able to talk to the suspects about a number of other things, including their favorite dinosaurs. I just thought it’d be fun to offer some dino trivia here and there. I’m a big dino nerd myself, after all!
Anyway, that’s about it for today. Jurassic June might be over, but that doesn’t mean I will stop talking about GENBA now.
On the contrary, we’re just getting started! So please look forward to more info soon!
Until then, please enjoy the rest of your weekend and take care! :3
