Weekly Update #603: Kamen Expressions & Other Project Shout-Outs

Today, I want to share another look at the facial expressions I’ve been working on for SHINRAI Saku, so here’s a look at some of Kamen‘s, from her trademark dissatisfied glare to an exhausted sigh:

I’ll be publishing the fully shaded final versions of these on Patreon soon, along with the remaining expressions, so if you support us there, do keep an eye out for that! More expressions for Nobara, Raiko and Rie will follow soon as well.

In general, I’ve spent this past week continuing to go through the script, slowly adding more and more green checkmarks on my to-do list by finishing up various kinds of assets that have been in the works for a while now, such as the aforementioned sprite variations, but also a new BG or a number of sound effects. Once Natsu is available again, she’ll sure have a lot to code!

I’ll be sharing more glimpses at all these things in the coming weeks, but for now, this new look at Kamen will have to suffice, as I actually wanted to also use today’s post to do a couple of shout-outs for various projects of fellow devs, given that Steam’s Next Fest is currently underway. So let’s start with a name you’re likely already familiar with:

  • NoBread Studio, the creators of SoulSet and Blankspace, are participating in the Fest with a demo for 304 Seconds which not only includes a little murder investigation, but also serves as a prologue to another upcoming visual novel of theirs that’s gonna be a sci-fi death game! So this might be right up the corpse-covered alley of all you murder mystery aficionados!

  • Next up, we’ve got KigyoDev, the developer of the “anti-death game” Artificial Selection, and Zeta-ken, the creator of The Game of Fourtune, who are also participating in the Fest with a demo for SpookY2K, a very colorful, comedic mystery VN set during a Halloween party in 1999! There’s player customization, blood, death, dark-skinned beauties and early 2000’s fashion, so all your heart could desire (or at least mine)!

  • Finally, Carrot has just launched the Steam page for Our Wonderland, a horror-fantasy VN. This one’s actually been out for a while on itch, so you may have already heard of it, but the Steam version will be remastered with tons of new goodies and art!
I’m eagerly awaiting the release myself, so I can finally delve in after only having heard amazing things about it for years, haha.

So yeah, please do take a moment to at least check out the store pages of these projects to see if maybe you might be interested in them (and if so, don’t forget to add them to your wishlists)!

With this, we’re coming to a close for today, so please enjoy the rest of your weekend and, until next Saturday, take care :3
