As you may have seen me mention every once in a while, our composer Solo Acapello and I have been working on a vocalized theme song for GENBA no Kizuna for quite some time now. And given that this song has finally been completed, I thought it’s about time I finally talk about it in more detail! In fact, I have just published a new post over on Patreon, in which I delve really deep into how the song came to be, what the process of working on it was like and, of course, you can even listen to the full 4:23 minutes of it and read through the lyrics!
I also wanted to give non-patrons an idea as to what the song is like, though, so here are the first 1:40 minutes of it:
- The Talent
The vocalist is the insanely talented Lunacy! I absolutely adore her voice and think she’s done a phenomenal job on this!
If you feel the same, then be sure to check out more of her work over on her YouTube channel!
Of course, the vocals wouldn’t sound quite as nice without someone to work on the mixing, so major props go to suponjiii as well, who did an equally amazing job! If you ever need a mixing ace for all your audio needs, do go here: https://suponjiii.github.io/#/!
And last but certainly not least, let’s not forget about Solo himself who not only worked on the composition but also wrote the lyrics.
I only gave feedback and some suggestions, so yeah… these three people are the ones who made another little dream of mine a reality: having a sung theme song for one of my projects! And I seriously couldn’t be any happier with the final result!
I think the song is not only really cool, but also super duper catchy!
- The Song
Now, regarding the song itself, we based it on both the title theme for GENBA and its “objection” theme. The original idea was really just to make a vocalized version of the latter, mostly for my own listening pleasure. I stumbled upon some vocalized fan covers of Ace Attorney BGM tracks once and really liked the idea behind that. So yeah, this wasn’t really anything planned from the start, but more of a fun addition to the soundtrack later on. You will unlock the full song as a bonus in the game upon completion of the main story.
That said, we have a song now… it’d be really cool if we could attach it to an actual opening movie too, no?
- Opening…?
SHINRAI never had one and while working on GENBA, it wasn’t really anything on my mind, either. I only started to seriously consider it when Solo brought up the idea of an “OP length” version of the song. As such, I still need to look into all of this and even find an animator, since I don’t have the skills to make an OP movie myself. So, as of right now, I’m gonna say that it will likely not be happening with the initial PC release. However, there’s always the option to include it in the console ports later on and retroactively add it to the PC version via an update! But again, I’ll tackle this later.
First and foremost, my main concern still remains getting the game itself done, so for the time being, I’m personally just super happy with the song itself existing and I sincerely hope that you’ll enjoy it as much as I do!
- GENBA Progress Update
Now then, where are we at with GENBA right now, anyway? Well, I’m currently polishing the script for the final scene. I’m almost done with it, so I hope to once again send Natsu another zip package tomorrow evening. With its contents, she’ll be able to code the last bit of the story, meaning that GENBA would finally be fully playable from beginning to end (or to the start of the credits at least)!
But that, as well as what’s gonna be left to do afterwards, will be something we’ll properly dig into next week!
Until then, I wish you a great start into spring! Take care :3
