Now that the 14th lies behind us and the White Day artwork is finished, I have finally gotten back to the writing for GENBA no Kizuna.
Over the last few days, I have revised the scene following the contents of our demo in order to get it ready for proof-reading.
If you support us on Patreon, you can actually check it out yourself!
The scene takes place at the beginning of the first actual chapter, or rather the Preparation Phase. I have talked about this before but rather than actual chapters, as it was the case in SHINRAI, GENBA‘s story will be divided into investigation phases.
The Preparation Phase is all about meeting your team mates as well as the suspects, getting a first look at the crime scene and body, and of course, gathering all the information about the case which is currently available.
Once the Preparation Phase is over, you will start the first actual Investigation Phase, in which you will be able to switch characters for the first time. Currently, the game is planned to contain a second Investigation Phase and two Discussion Phases, one of which will obviously comprise the finale. So basically, the structure currently looks like this:
Prologue > Preparation Phase > Initial Investigation Phase > Discussion Phase > Core Investigation Phase > Final Discussion Phase > Epilogue.
All of this is naturally subject to change, but right now, I don’t see why I would change anything about it.
Getting back to the little script snippet I have posted on Patreon, though…
It features the introductions to Dr. Kikai and Officer Shirayuki, two of the other playable main characters, and ends with the reveal of the victim’s cause of death.
Next up will be the moment Keiichi finally lays eyes upon the body himself. It has long been written (the entire first chapter has been), but is still in need of a revision as well, so I will take care of that soon.
Anyway, one big reason as to why I wanted to bring this scene to its final iteration already is the fact that I’d like Solo Acapello, our composer, to finally tackle the next few tracks. And of course I’d like to give him the proper context, especially since one of them will be a character-related theme. So it’s important for him to know what exactly that character is like in order to properly convey his personality through a musical tune.
Outside of that, I have also been doing some more sprite work. The introduction of two new characters naturally means that I will finally need to start working on their poses and expressions (currently, everyone but Keiichi and Nobuhiko only’s got a base sprite).
Furthermore, it’s also time to start working on the next background which depicts the main hall of the Kaseki Residence.
I will most likely focus on that first for now, since it’s been one of my big goals for this month.
Now, as for our demo, I really wish I could give you an update on it, but Natsu’s been busy with a lot of other things, so the coding still hasn’t been finished. At this point, all I can say is: it’ll be ready when it’s ready.
Anyway, that’s it for today, so please enjoy the rest of your weekend and, until next Saturday, take care! :3
