As mentioned in our previous blog post, I’ve spent this past week once again working on the writing for GENBA no Kizuna’s first Investigation Phase (or chapter if you will), aiming to finish it by today. And I was indeed successful in that. I actually finished it yesterday and simply did some proofreading, editing and a few revisions today, so that I can send it over to Natsu later.
It now adds up to ~17,500 words, which is about 2,500 words more than I expected it to be. Of course, the background examination comments and dialogues are still missing, since the BGs aren’t done yet. However, with those included, it should easily surpass 20,000 words now, which would make it about half as long as the first chapter of SHINRAI – Broken Beyond Despair.
Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with how it turned out (although there will most likely be some tiny revisions later on), and Natsu’s impressions so far have also given me more confidence. I’m most proud of the characters, which are starting to grow really close to my heart. Writing some of the scenes with the knowledge of how the story will end is almost heart-wrenching, haha.
I really can’t wait to share all of this with even more people.
But in order to do so, we need to finish a bit more than just the writing, of course. Last week, I was already talking about a demo and that’s what we will be focusing on now.
Over the course of next week, I will make a complete list of all the assets we will need, while also doing some more proofreading and editing. I might also continue with the second phase, writing the intro scene at least. Afterwards, a bit more planning is needed, since we’re getting close to the first point in the game where you can switch between the four main characters.
There is still so much to do, it’s a little intimidating. But at the same time, it feels very good to have the story-part of the first phase completely written now!
Anyway, there are two more things I’d like to finish today: the in-game maps, as well as the design sketch for the last of the four suspect characters. So I better get back to work now!
As always, please enjoy the rest of your weekend and, until next Saturday, take care! :3
