As you can already tell from the title and the screenshot above, I’ve been working quite a bit on background art lately!
In GENBA no Kizuna‘s penultimate chapter (the final investigation phase), you’ll get to explore new parts of the Kaseki Residence, such as the back corridor, the backyard or the laundry room on the second floor.
Not all of these places will be examinable in an investigation segment, however. Some of them will only be shown in the… well… background. You won’t really get to see them all that much either, so I opted for relatively simple backgrounds without adding too much detail in order to reduce the amount of time I’d have to spend working on them.
A really good example for this would be the door that leads out into the backyard:
This BG will only be seen in three relatively short scenes, so I kept it extremely simple. No added plants in the corners or such.
Just the door in the center and the painted forest walls to the sides.
Now, in exchange for this simplicity, the backyard and laundry room will be much, much more detailed as you will be able to fully examine them in order to find new clues and evidence. As such, they will also take a little longer to complete, so I can’t really show you any screenshots of those yet (although I provided an early glimpse at the laundry room for patrons a while ago here).
The laundry room is almost done as well, actually. In fact, it would have already been done by now if I hadn’t screwed up with one of the layers somehow, which sadly requires me to redo a majority of the shadows “orz
But outside of that, we’re only really left with the backyard and one other place before we’re good with the BGs for chapter four!
Primarily, I’m still focused on the script, however, and getting another chunk of it ready for Natsu to code again. I’m also going to tackle the next CG soon, so yeah… it will probably be a little while longer until I’ll have more BG art to show.
