Weekly Blog Post #561: Sprite Progress, Neko No Sentouki Translation Progress, Mystery Game Jam & Flowchart Tool

This past week, I’ve once again been focusing on the sprite art for SHINRAI Saku – Blooming Beyond Despair!

Currently, I’m working on the last full base sprite needed for the project and plan to finish it within the next few days, so that a Patreon preview can be published next week. Afterwards, we will need a couple more mugshots and silhouettes for characters that won’t play an active role in the story (similar to how we did it in GENBA no Kizuna) and, of course, some different facial expressions for our main cast, but the toughest, most time-consuming work in terms of the sprites will finally lie behind us!

It’ll be another major step forward, so I’m pretty excited to get there!

Aside from sprite work, I’ve also once again dedicated a lot of time to Neko No Sentouki, continuing to go through Aiko‘s route. It’s still gonna take a bit, but Jun and I are working hard on finalizing the English translation for it ASAP. For now, however, it’s still recommended to start out with Hikaru‘s route if you do plan to jump into the game (which you should)!

Another thing I’ve been testing and playing around with is an interesting little flowchart tool. It’s meant to help visualize the structure of your project’s story. You can create nodes to represent the story beats or scenes, for example, and attach to them respective location, actors or clues. It’s currently still in beta and has some issues that need to be fixed, but I can definitely see this being very helpful, so… if you think such a thing could be nifty for your own project planning, you can keep an eye on Mystery Gamedev for further news or maybe even join our community on Discord!

Mystery Gamedev just concluded its second annual Mystery Game Jam, too, which ended up with 54 playable submissions! More than twice as last year! So be sure to check some of them out (and/or mark your calendars for next year, if you yourself would like to partake in a month-long mystery game jam)!

Now then, that about wraps it up for this week’s news, so please enjoy the rest of your weekend and, until next Saturday, take care :3
