Today, we’re super duper hyped to give you another listen to the soundtrack for SHINRAI Saku – Blooming Beyond Despair!
Especially since this new addition to it is actually a recurring track which was previously featured in both the original SHINRAI as well as GENBA no Kizuna! That’s why we thought it’d be cool to whip up a little comparison for you to fully appreciate the differences between the now three different versions of the same track! So… here you go:
“Carefree Days Drifting By” was originally composed by my dad over a decade ago now. It was one of the first tracks needed for our little VN and thus one of the first that ever got made, which is why it has a very special place in my heart. When we started working on GENBA and it became clear that some SHINRAI characters would make a cameo in it, I naturally wanted their appearance to be accompanied by a musical callback as well. Thus, I tasked Solo Acapello with whipping up a jungle-like arrangement of that very track, resulting in “Cenozoic Days Drifting By“.
And now, for Saku, I asked Crescendo to make her own arrangement of it, reflecting the traditional Japanese ryokan setting.
Three different composers with three different takes on the very same track. And all three sound absolutely amazing to my ears!
I’m a big fan of recurring music. Always love to hear a theme return in a series I enjoy, particularly if it’s a different take. It’s yet another way to create a throughline between projects. Plus, it personally means a lot to me that, even though my dad is no longer able to compose any music, his work continues to be a part of my stories.
So I’m very grateful to both Solo and Cre for not only accepting this request, but doing such a phenomenal job with it!
I couldn’t be happier with the result!
If you too enjoy that little preview and want to hear more, supporters of both our Patreon (5$+ tiers) and Crescendo’s Ko-fi (3$+ memberships) can once again access the entire 2:07 minute track!
Also, in case you’ve missed the first BGM reveal along with the introduction to our mega-talented new composer, be sure to check out this post where you can read the full scoop. Crescendo herself also shared some words about it here.
Now then, as always, please enjoy the rest of your weekend, have a wonderful and hopefully stress-free start into the festive season and, until next Saturday, take care ^w^
