Weekly Update #585: Art & Music Progress + Mystery Game Masterclass

This past week, my work on SHINRAI Saku character expressions continued and, as you can clearly see above, I’ve also finally finished those for our little bat mascot which will once again accompany you through the game and react to the dialogues!

Beyond that, I’ve taken care of a few more minor GUI art assets and also finalized the expressions for Ritsu and Shizue, which patrons will be able to get an early preview of very soon!

The biggest news relates to Saku‘s music, however, as the very first track is now done, too! I seriously can’t wait to share a preview of it and finally fill you guys in on all the details regarding our new composer, but that’ll have to wait until next week, unfortunately. I just don’t have enough time today to type up a longer blog post I’m afraid… “orz

That’s more or less the gist of what I can share, anyway. Though there is one last thing I’d like to bring your attention to:

Good friend, fellow dev and head of the Mystery Gamedev Community Kinjo Goldbar has recently published the Mystery Game Masterclass, a paid course that “will help you overcome the 6 biggest problems you’ll face as a mystery game developer“.

You can read and learn more about it in the official announcement post. With over 150,000 words of script, the course encompasses a ton of content aimed at helping you get started with creating your own mystery game. With 500+ slides, 12 to 15 hours of video content, and even homework assignments and handouts, spread across 50+ lessons, you’ll be guided from the planning to the prototyping phase (a second course will be released at a later date, continuing all the way up to getting to a finished product).

There really is a lot covered there, from the basics of mystery design to specific coding examples. So if you’ve always thought about making your own mystery game, but you’re unsure where to start or have tons of questions and anxieties about the whole endeavor, do at least check out the post linked above to see if this might sound like something that could help you get rolling! A lot of time, effort and care has been put into it by someone who’s had years of experience making mystery games himself.

Now then, with Halloween just around the corner, please enjoy a super spooky weekend and, until next time, take care! °w°
