As you can see from the title, I’ve primarily returned to script work this past week. With the BG art for the backyard done now, I can finally finish up the investigation segment for it, so that’s one part I’ve spent a lot of time on: thinking up and writing the background examination comments and dialogues.
I’m simultaneously also working on the conclusion to the second investigation phase, however. Before it’s time for the final showdown with Raptor Pack Productions to unravel all the remaining mysteries and identify the actual killer, Keiichi can approach the members of his team one last time to have a final, quick conversation with them before they gather up to confront the suspects.
These are going to be some of the shortest, but most meaningful exchanges in the game. I really want players to notice that things have changed a bit, when they compare these scenes with the very first meetings with Shin, Rei and Hima. I mean, there obviously cannot be any drastic differences. They’ve only worked together over the course of a day, so they ain’t gonna be the bestest of friends all of a sudden. Hima will still be Hima, and continue to act in typical Hima fashion. However, the ice does have melted a little and there certainly is a bit of a mutual trust and respect now. It’s a bit difficult to put into words and I don’t want to say too much about it, but I certainly hope that what I’m aiming to achieve here works. But that’s something only others will be able to tell me, haha.
Anyway, we truly are getting to the grand finale now. Being this close to finally wrapping up the second investigation phase has certainly filled me with some new motivation and I can honestly say that today’s writing session has been one of the most relaxed and satisfying I’ve had in a while. Probably because, rather than keep track of 66 million things and double-check my notes every two minutes, while the characters discuss case details… I could just let them interact and be themselves.
Something I’ve been having so much fun with that I’d like to get right back to it, so…
