Weekly Update #193: Dino Facts

If you’re following my private Twitter account, you might have seen me make this tweet last Saturday, giving a little WIP sneak peek of the Kaseki Residence‘s main hall, which now features none other than the “Tyrant Lizard King” himself: Tyrannosaurus Rex.

That’s right, we have a T-Rex! And today, I’d like to talk a little more about that as well as about dinosaurs in general…

If you have played the GENBA no Kizuna demo and taken a look at the maps in the DPA Menu, you might have noticed a weird shape depicted in the center of the main hall, located between the staircases:

Maybe you have already been able to tell prior to this posting, but the shape marks the position of the Rex, which is a life-sized replica and part of the prehistoric exhibits at the Kaseki Residence. Will it have any relevance to the actual murder or did I just add it simply because I’m a dino nerd and wanted to draw a T-Rex…? Who knows!

(I’m pretty sure you can tell the right answer. At least I hope so… w)

I’m still indecisive about the Rex’s design and playing around with various color schemes and skin patterns, but I guess I’ll post a full preview of it on Patreon soon. Maybe even all the different color variants to let patrons decide which one to go with (if I keep being indecisive). Either way, since we’re already on the topic, I’ve also made this tweet rather recently.

Although I was mostly kidding about wanting players to be able to answer all the questions in the Jurassic World Facts App upon completion of GENBA, there is actually a little bit of truth to it.

Being able to easily answer all the questions in the app would go a little far, but I certainly do want this game to be educational and provide players with some interesting info about dinosaurs. Rest assured though that I’m not going to force dino facts upon you in case you simply don’t care. They will be mostly provided through optional DPA entries (such as the one about the Mesozoic, which is unlockable in the tutorial investigation), or through optional conversations with the suspect characters.

And for the most part, players will be able to tell if something is just there for fun or actually relevant to the plot and therefore worth a read. Still, not all dino facts will simply be there for trivia purposes. Some will definitely play a key role in solving the case!

Naturally, it’s a bit hard to talk about this in detail without getting into spoilers, so I guess I’ll leave it at that for now.

Anyway, I guess that’s about it for today, so please enjoy the rest of your weekend and, until next Saturday, take care! :3
